On Wednesday night, my aunt and I went to dinner at Tapa's in Hartford (try the Basque flatbread tapas) and headed over to the Hartford Stage to see Yesterdays, an evening with Billie Holiday. It was amazing. Beautiful and tragic, the cabaret style show was a reenactment of her last performance before her death. Her obvious addiction was unsettling and heart breaking. Writing many of her own song from personal experience, her painful tales of growing up poor, abuse, and the disillusion with love, Billie's lyrics tear down barriers and tell a story all their own.
